Underbelly - Season 1
I actually came across this one by accident. Spotted it on IMDB and decided to get myself a copy. The general gist of it is regarding the drug trade and underworld in Melbourne, Australia. The seaon is basically on how the drug trade grew and how the police managed to bring it all down.
First thing I like about this show, is that everytime you start to get to know a character... BAM they get wiped out, and to be fair to the writers I imagine that is exactly what happens in the underworld, everyone fighting to reach the top only to be slotted and another wannabe takes your place.
I also like the fact that it is based on real events, with obvious details doctored to protect certain people.
It started out pretty edgy and gritty, with a character known as the "Black Prince", who really was a horrible bastard and did a good job of potraying that, but it's his accomplice who is one of the ling running characters of the show, even though that initial night with the Black Prince seems out of character to what we see later on.
My only gripe is the man they call Carl Williams. I thought he was supposed to be mentally slow in the first episodes, so how the hell does he get where he does? That bit simply defies belief for me. I think they needed a less 'dopey' looking actor to play him in reality.
I enjoyed watching the series, and I enjoyed all it's twists and turns, including how the police managed to get their men in the end.
My Rating: 15/20

The Mentalist Season 3 - Review
*Disclaimer - I am no expert writer or critique, I am simply saying the things I see and feel during the programs I watch. Ifg you feel it's a lot of old crap then feel free to leave you comment :)

I managed to finish this show at the end of last week. Have to say that I did enjoy it, but it was still a little too 'samey' for me throughout. I love Jane's character, but even he got a bit monotonous for me in places. I guess there are only so many 'tricks' he can pull off when investigating a homicide.
I think so far this is their worst season. I always enjoy the parts where the Red John case creeps in and it is still intruiging, but how much longer can it go on? The last episode is pretty enjoyable ***SPOILER ALERT*** - Can that really be Red John? Maybe it's my imagination, but the voice, the actions, the mannerisms of the so-called villain, don't match what we have already learned about this phenomena.
Aside from the ending some of the episodes were pretty poor. The Walter Mashburn thing was awful, from begining to end, it almost looks as though he was thrown in there as a last minute idea, I really don't see why they found the need to take that route unless he plays a bigger part down the line. I guess it doesn't help that the actor makes about as realistic millionairre playboy as Victor Meldrew would have. Rubbish.
Also, the Hightower storyline wasn't believable, especially given the character they portrayed her as earlier in the show. Unless she has schizophrenia???
Anyways, I won't bore you to death. It's worth a watch, but don;t go out of your way to buy it.
Rating: 10/20
So was that really the enigma that is Red John....
I guess I'll find out when I get Season 4 :)
